Personal Statement in Rhymed Stanzas

I am an experienced ESL/EFL teacher
with other notable instructional features
including strong work in composition,
literature, and the breadth of English tradition

Along with ample teaching experience,
I bring administrative skill and resilience:
I have served as a global student advisor,
and as a course and program supervisor.

I can foster institutional betterment
through program and project development,
having designed short-term summer content
for foreign students, and organized many events

that promoted creativity and language growth;
authored handbooks; and (if I may boast)
presented at conferences with repute,
while actively serving my institute.

My professional work spans the United States,
the Gulf, and Africa. My latest success to date
was joining the highly selective list
of the English Language Specialists.

My travels to fifty-three nations
have broadened my cross-cultural foundations
and deepened my sense of unity
with the international community.

But, for many years, I have chased advancement,
pursuing each goal for my CV’s enhancement,
so fixed on the promise of a future horizon
I let the present slip by without realizing.

Now, as I approach my fiftieth year,
I can foresee my career’s end drawing near.
After a lifetime spent chasing what I admired,
will I know how to rest, when work’s what I desired?
